About the Platform
We are a group of Yemeni women activists, led by Monia
Thabet, and we initiated to launch a platform to exchange with our audience on
how to enhance women participation on the local level in Yemen. On this website
we provide background material on women's issues in Yemen, as well as our perspective
on the local debate. As a team, we have expertise in various
fields/backgrounds: (academic) writers, members of civil society organizations
and a photographer. Together, we are committed to provide a framework on
women’s issues in Yemen in general, and to exchange with the audience online on
various issues related to women’s participation on the local level.
In doing so, we provide the general body of
knowledge in terms of relevant (inter)national legislation, glossary, and
recommended materials, and also offer our own vision on several issues women
face in Yemeni society, ordered in different categories: protection,
participation, prevention, and early recovery & integration. Under the
‘events’ section, we will list relevant events for the audience to (further)
engage on women’s issues and will organize several exchange activities to
discuss women’s issues with the audience.
The platform is supported by “Support for peaceful
coexistence in Yemen (PPSY II)”, a project commissioned by the German Federal
Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). An earlier phase of
this project was co-funded by the European Union, with the aim of improving the
capabilities for non-violent conflict transformation and promoting the values
and principles of co-existence. In order to achieve this goal, the project
implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit
(GIZ) GmbH, provides technical and financial support to strengthen local
capacity in different areas, amongst which the area of enhancing the
participation and strengthening the role of women in local decision-making
processes.
